Review

This is a book for an adult audience. This was interesting book to read. There were some bloody, graphic, and violent scenes. There were a couple sex scenes and some language (as you may have noticed from the excerpts).

From the About the Author page: She wanted to write a book about time travel that was a little different, and not having a clue how difficult this would make her book to classify went ahead and slung in elements of history, adventure, comedy, romance, tragedy, and anything else she could think of. - She succeeded - however, some additional detail could have been added to the history part.

The first 1/3 of the book went by pretty seamlessly very little problems. Then, the roller coaster slides off the first cliff and you're hooked to the end! The story is told in first person by one of the main historians which gives her a bit of immunity. If you're not a main character however, hang on to your head because many characters were disposable. The beginning of the book had a list of credits so to speak to introduce the characters and their roles. This seemed a bit unnecessary for how disposable the majority of the characters are. A level of suspense could have been added by telling the story in 3rd person. While Max did get herself in a few close calls, as a reader we know things will eventually work out for her, otherwise the story would drop off because she wouldn’t be there to finish telling the story. Other than disposable characters I really got into the story and enjoyed it more than I expected. I can't wait to read the other books in the series as well as find other books by her and Ms. Barclay. I was shocked to see Isabella Barclay as pen name for the author since Max didn’t get along with her very well!
